The money most gig workers leave behind
You're probably overpaying. Here's why.
You're allowed to deduct your real business expenses.
If you don't track them properly, they get missed.

💸
Platform fees not deducted
Your 1099-K shows gross earnings — before Uber or DoorDash took their cut. That fee is deductible on Schedule C Line 10. Most workers never claim it.
🚗
Mileage — $0.70/mile in 2026
Covers gas, oil, depreciation, and insurance. Most drivers claim less than half their eligible miles. Dead miles between pickups count too.
📱
Phone and data plan
The business-use percentage of your monthly bill is deductible under IRC §179. At $89/mo and 70% business use: $748/year unclaimed.
🏦
Car loan interest
Interest on a vehicle used for gig work is deductible pro-rated to business use. At 78% business use, 78% of your annual interest is deductible.
📅
Quarterly tax penalties
The IRS charges underpayment penalties even if you pay in full by April. Four deadlines per year — most gig workers miss at least one.
🇦🇺 Australia
💸
Platform commissions not deducted
The ATO sees your gross platform earnings before their commission. That fee is deductible on your Business Schedule. Most sole traders never claim it.
🚗
Cents per kilometre — 88¢/km in 2026
Covers fuel, oil, depreciation, and insurance. Most drivers claim less than half their eligible kilometres. Kilometres between jobs count too.
📱
Phone and data plan
The work-use percentage of your monthly plan is deductible under ITAA 1997 s8-1. At $79/mo and 70% work use: $664/year unclaimed.
🏦
Vehicle loan interest
Interest on a loan for a vehicle used for gig work is deductible at your business-use percentage under ITAA 1997 s8-1.
📅
PAYG instalment penalties
The ATO expects quarterly PAYG payments on gig income. Miss one and interest applies — even if you pay the full amount at tax time.

About
Eric Van Lent, CPA · DULU-C LLC d/b/a Eazy-C · Nashville, TN
Built by a CPA. Powered by AI.
I'm Eric Van Lent — a licensed CPA (#245211, California) and US Navy veteran. I spent years doing public company finance before I noticed that every gig worker I knew was overpaying their taxes in the same way.
The problem is structural. Platforms report gross earnings. The IRS sees the gross. Most workers never claim the deduction that bridges the gap. I built Eazy-C to fix that automatically.
I live in Nashville, Tennessee, with my three dogs — Duke, Luna, and Copper. The company is DULU-C LLC, named after them. Bootstrapped. No VC. No investors to answer to.
I taught myself PowerPoint as a kid by building a 50-slide multimedia presentation — complete with sound and video — about my cat Shana. I called it "The Kingdom of Shana." It was, objectively, a masterpiece.
That is genuinely who I am. I have always been the person who learns a tool and immediately tries to build something with it. PowerPoint became Excel. Excel became accounting systems. Accounting systems became public company finance. And now — finally — AI became Eazy-C.
